How we met
Pretty simple story, really. He was a boy, and she was a girl. Could I make it any more obvious? We’ll cut the song there! Bronnie and I were in our second year of studies and happened to make eye contact while dissecting a donkey. Couldn’t be more romantic, really. After multiple attempts and constant effort, I gave up. No, I didn’t give up but was almost there until our faculty dinner. Bron agreed to go with me, and if things didn’t go the way they did, we wouldn’t be together. I’ll save the finer details for my wedding speech, but the rest, as they say, is history.
We have made beautiful memories together and raised our little family of strays. We wish for nothing more than for our family and closest friends to have an absolute jol. We chose Magoebaskloof as it was the place that I managed to ring Bron. That sounded terrible!! But it is a special place in our hearts, and we wouldn’t choose anywhere else. We look forward to skitting, squeezing tekkie, laughing, and enjoying our time with you beautiful people.

Meet the “I do crew”!
GROOMSMEN (Da Buoys)
TYRON “TYDAWG” GREVE
Ty is the guy that you call at the end of the night when shit really has hit the fan. Great brother-in-law and even better mate.
Strengths: Excellent aim, can speak 7 languages, shares the same ancestry as Jeremy Clarkson.
Weaknesses: Archery, dancing, figure skating and Klipdrift.
JUVAL “JV” BELISHA
JV will be available for consultations during the weekend. Book ASAP. JV is my childhood mate whose remained constant throughout all these years, and yes the freckles are fake.
Strengths: Anatomy, rowing, mixology, French poetry, and Italian style.
Weaknesses: French poetry, ballroom dancing, graphic design and Zambuca.
DANIEL “EDUARDO” LIGHTLEY
Dans the man with a plan for many things including the poultry industry. We became mates through our fun years of varsity. Through thick and thin he stayed. I was thick he was thin.
Strengths: Equine ophthalmology, birding, Roman history re-enactments and gardening.
Weaknesses: Dental mouthwash tablets, horticulture, fine bead work and wine.
RU “RUTH” JORDAAN
After excelling in home school our paths crossed at Varsity. Ru is the guy that will fix your household and a shitty day. Careful when speaking to him, his bilingual Afrikaans tongue can swap at any moment.
Strengths: Kangaroo surgery, firefighting, carpentry, and excellent midwife.
Weaknesses: Shoulder injuries, tomatoes, hairdressing, and whiskey.
ROBERT “WATTS” WATSON
Rob and I met in the humble year of 2003. He is the guy that will motivate you to achieve your dreams. If you catch him at the bar you unfortunately have to embrace very dry humour. Just laugh or it will not end well.
Strengths: armcurls, leg presses, gift of the gab, sewing and sales.
Weaknesses: being quiet, running, pottery and beer.
ROBERT “BOOZE GUY” HILL
Robbo and I met at the young age of 1. Can’t say I remember much but I presume it was good times. He’s the guy that’s got your back when you need it most. His charisma can sometimes get you a free drink or banned from the bar. Watch this space.
Strengths: chest presses, wine tasting, micro needling and cooking.
Weaknesses: closed shoes, basketball, livestock farming and whiskey.
BRIDESMAIDS (I got my rock, but I still need my flock..)
LAUREN “LIFE OF THE PARTY” CLARK
Lolly has been a sister-friend for more than a decade now after first meeting in primary school. She’s that close friend that you have almost no recent photos together, those 2008 lumo party photos just don’t cut it anymore. Lolly is also one of the warmest, bubbliest people you’ll meet, and you’ll likely find her to be the first one squeaking tekkie on the dance floor.
Strengths: birding, leather work, will party til sunrise, teaches your children well
Weaknesses: will party til sunrise, spelling, coordination, wine
CHARLOTTE “BEANIE” GREVE
Cha is not only my future sister-in-law and one of the smartest people I have met, but someone who has become a dear friend. Cha is the type of person who will make the best of any situation and will make you laugh til your cheeks and abs ache. You’ll also likely find her picking flowers from someone else’s garden.
Strengths: physiology, tequila, artistic, comical, kniting scarves
Weaknesses: Alcohol, eyesight, shoe size, cheesecake
RONALDO “RONNIE” RUITERS
Ronnie is the ultimate friend and go-to guy. The kind of guy to pick you up when you are down, and also the one to make spontaneous bad decisions to jol hard on a Tuesday. We met on the first day of Tuks Village res introductions and have been inseparable ever since. You’ll likely find him with his sunglasses on grooving to the music on the dance floor whilst sipping on his vodka. That, or twerking.
Strengths: scaling fences, keeping his sneakers a crisp white, twerking, Long Island Ice Tea cocktails
Weaknesses: Long Island Ice Tea cocktails, techno music, Henry Cavill
REBECCA “BECS” SMITH
I’m pretty certain we share a photo together at the Onderstepoort Hawaiian party before we even officially met. And, well let’s just say, if Becs didn’t play cupid at one of these yearly parties, I don’t think we’d be here today. She is one of the most genuine people you’ll meet with the kindest heart, biggest smile, and an even bigger laugh. You’ll most likely find her by following the trail of chatter and laughter, attempting to throw a ball into a cup of beer.
Strengths: public speaking, gardening, horse riding, knows how to handle a scalpel, installation of appliances
Weaknesses: calcium, sunshine, beer pong, electrodance music
LYNN “LYNNIE” WEITZ
Lynnie and I met sometime in varsity. Don’t ask either of us exactly where, when or how as all we know is that we got on like a house on fire. Lynnie is an all rounder kinda girl, she’ll sort out that back ache and still style your hair with a G&T in hand. You’ll also most likely find her asking how long you’ve had that neck pain for.
Strengths: knowledge of the spine, tequila, dexterity, dance moves, lasagna
Weaknesses: gardening, braaiing marshmallows, champagne tower
